How different kinds of foods can reveal aspects of a person’s identity and culture Fifth and sixth grade students created realistic clay sculptures of their
favorite foods. They reflected on why their foods of choice are meaningful to
them. Students also made a plan to make their sculptures appear
life-like. They looked at food paintings by the American painter
Wayne Thiebaud.
Art lessons that encourage students to explore different materials and techniques so that that they can learn to express themselves, make connections across disciplines, and think critically and imaginatively about their world.
